Description

The right hand panel should not be the same as what you get when you go to the full panel page.

There should be less information, only the things that you most want to know, that isn't redundant with what is already in the project listing.

The side panel should always mean "more information"

Concept: where there is an item that you want to get a summary/preview, we show an (i) icon or something which opens the right hand panel.

When the user hasn't selected anything, or the selection == the main panel, then we hide the right hand panel automatically.

The the top "toolbar" buttons should be more consistent -- every one should have maximize & hide buttons. At least some of the buttons from the 3 dots (hotdog?) menu should be in the toolbar. Extra buttons that spill over should go into a 3 dots menu.

Buttons should mean the same thing. E.g. Don't use a magnifying glass to mean both "search" and "increase/decrease font size".

afternoon discussion

  • when you click on something in a data explorer (project list, subprocess list etc) it automatically opens the side panel
  • if you navigate to a page for a thing and don't have any sub-item selected then it hides the side panel
  • items which can have summaries outside of the data explorer have an icon which opens the side panel
  • should have custom summary views designed for the side panel
  • when navigating to a panel for a process or collection, the info panel only shows the summary data, with a button (like a down arrow) which expands the panel to include more detailed information
  • for the different sub-panels like input/output and logs
    • Buttons should mean the same thing. E.g. Don't use a magnifying glass to mean both "search" and "increase/decrease font size".
    • have consistent use of the maximize and close buttons
    • standardize use of toolbar buttons for panels
  • 3 line menu ("hamburger") is used wrong
  • the correct material UI usage would be for the hamburger menu to show/hide the left nav panel
  • use a different icon where we currently use the 3rd line menu
  • landing page?
  • project page:
    • move "type" to 1st column
    • type is indicated by the icons that we already have
    • don't have column heading text "type", just show the funnel for filtering
  • want a better icon for processes -- maybe a gear instead of balloons
    • rocket ship?
    • arrow in a circle?
    • cpu chip
    • circulating arrows
  • hide file size columns if filter doesn't include any collections
  • consider having different icons for each thing that can be filtered on
  • want to be able to be able to directly expand the data explorer list to include that are "under" a workflow like intermediate steps, intermediate output, and log collections.
  • alternately, incorporate subprocesses into right-side panel summary view (only show running & failed)
