Side pane closes when user asks to change the contents

Description

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Navigate to a project
  2. Use the action menu to "View details" on some item
  3. While the details for the first item are still open, use the action menu to "View details" on a different item

Expected result:

The right pane shows the details for the item I selected in step 3.

Actual result:

The right pane closes.
