Description
I just spent some time debugging an issue where a typo in a $(file) substitution led to an unhelpful error from the program being called. While the #1 culprit for this bug is that program (cough, Java, cough), run-command could help out by checking if the path exists when it makes the substitution, and bailing with a helpful error message when it doesn't.
