FWIW, cursory searching hasn't revealed how to do this. It doesn't correspond to any argument to create_node, and looking at other EC2 SDKs, it doesn't seem to be commonly available.

Not sure how this got estimated at 0.5 story points if there was no known solution, but the libcloud parameter ex_terminate_on_sh to create_node controls this behavior. Not sure if it's available in the version of libcloud that we use, but it's available in current versions.
